Journey Lineworker or an experienced Apprentice Lineworker

General Summary

The primary purpose of the position is to perform the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Cooperative’s distribution lines, substations, and all substation and line equipment, devices and apparatuses including, but not limited to, AMR/AMI equipment, regulators, OCR’s, switches, capacitor banks, etc. Enables the Cooperative to deliver electric energy to members at the lowest possible cost consistent with sound management and business practices by performing all lineworker functions including, but not limited to, member service, emergency response, construction, maintenance, and service work for the operation of the electric system.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Uses appropriate materials and supplies required for line construction to inspect, construct, operate, upgrade, maintain, and repair cooperative underground and overhead distribution lines, substations, equipment, and apparatuses associated with the Cooperatives system including, but not limited to tree trimming, transformers, regulators, regulator panels, oil circuit reclosers, auto boosters, capacitors, switch gear, fuse holders, insulators, lightning arresters, AMR/AMI equipment, regulators, and OCR’s to ensure compliance with all RUS specifications, applicable provisions of the National Electrical Safety Code and as detailed in the staking sheets.

Accepts service, outage, and emergency calls (during and after business hours) and reports as the first responder to investigate, direct and/or perform the necessary work to quickly and safely restore service or address concerns. Guidelines for responding to after-hours calls are outlined in the Cooperative’s stand-by duty guidelines.

Utilizes the Cooperative’s system maps, interprets staking sheets, understands overhead, underground, and special construction specifications, reads circuit and sectionalizing diagrams and is familiar with the proper operation and application of all sectionalizing devices used on the Cooperative’s system to render prompt, efficient, and reliable electric service as well as to ensure a safe, healthy, and efficient workplace and/or work site.

Participates in safety programs, promotes safe working habits, observes all OSHA 1910.269 and cooperative safety rules and ensures that personnel assigned follow the Cooperative’s safety rules and uses safety equipment furnished by the Cooperative in order to comply with applicable rules and ensure a safe working environment.


Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.  Graduation from vocational/technical school in the power line studies field is preferred.  Possess a qualified journey lineworker certificate.

Experience, training, testing and abilities of a qualified journey lineworker and/or have completed a recognized apprenticeship training program.
