The Electrician performs proper installation, wiring, troubleshooting, testing, and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems in the Utility's steam and electric generation sites and general service facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent GED AND two years’ experience in an industrial environment with preference to power generation
OR
completion of a two-year electrical trade school program
OR
completion of an approved Apprentice Electrician program

Applicants who have not completed an Apprentice Electrician program must successfully complete RPU's Apprentice Electrician program within five years as a condition of continued employment.

Licenses and Certifications
Valid Minnesota driver's license

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Additional education in electrical, electronics, control logic, mathematics or sciences.

NFPA 70E Training

Experience and working knowledge of electrical and electronics theory, control systems, safety practices, codes, standards and regulations governing the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems. Power generation experience. Computerized Maintenance Management System or SAP data management systems familiarity.

2025 Starting Wage:

• *Journey/Maintenance Electrician wage will be based on experience ranging from $41.48/hr, to $48.80/hr.
• Apprentice Electrician: $39.04/hr, with advancement to $48.80/hr, after four years.

*To be eligible for the journey starting rate, candidates must have successfully completed an approved Journey Electrician Apprenticeship Program with current licensure as a Journeyman Class A or Maintenance Electrician.

Wages will be updated when the contract for 2026 is in place.
