Director of Safety Services
The Minnesota Rural Electric Association (MREA), representing electric cooperatives in Minnesota (www.mrea.org ), is seeking qualified applications for the position of Director of Safety Services. This position reports to MREA’s CEO based in MREA’s Maple Grove location. The position is responsible for managing an effective safety program meeting the needs of our members. MREA provides service and leadership to all of Minnesota’s 50 electric cooperatives.
The Director of Safety Services will:
- Lead a team of five delivering safety training and safety-related services to MREA’s member cooperatives.
- Provide safety coordination services to member systems, including activities to ensure and track compliance with safety requirements and best practices.
- Collaborate with safety team members and MREA’s membership to continually enhance the safety program.
- Guide member systems in understanding and interpretation of regulatory requirements of OSHA, FEMA, FMCSR, DOT, NESC, MPCA/EPA, etc.
- Lead or participate in accident investigations as requested by member systems.
- Oversee the state’s administration of the Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP).
- Manage the Safety Services program budget, including dues-based and fee-for-service functions.
A strong candidate will understand safety within an electrical utility environment and have management skills, communication skills, the ability to present to a variety of audiences. Knowledge is typically acquired through 7+ years of related experience. Experience in electric utility operations is a plus. Relevant education could include Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Safety and Loss Control (CLCP) programs or post-secondary education in related fields.
A strong candidate will have knowledge of regulations, procedures, practices, work methods, and reporting requirements that apply to safety in the electric utility environment. Knowledge of electric theory, power transmission and distribution systems, and their operating principles and practices preferred.
Routine travel to MREA’s members across Minnesota is required, along with routine time at MREA’s office in Maple Grove. There is flexibility regarding the location of the employee’s Minnesota-based duty station.
Salary: $140,000 - $167,000. A competitive benefits package is included.
