Corporate Controller 

Dakota Electric Association is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Corporate Controller to oversee our accounting, financial reporting, and payroll operations. As a key member of our Financial Services team, you will ensure compliance with internal policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements, while supporting the financial health of our cooperative.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the preparation of accurate monthly and annual financial statements and manage the annual audit process.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and ensure compliance with financial policies and industry standards.
  • Oversee payroll operations and coordinate with HR and financial planning teams.
  • Manage capital credit allocation and retirement processes, as well as all tax-related activities.
  • Administer financial accounting software and ensure alignment with other business systems.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering growth and high performance.
  • Collaborate across departments to support organizational goals and financial alignment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Target salary: $147,000 - $195,000 annually

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting  

  • Ten years of progressive experience in accounting

  • five years of leading an accounting department

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A CPA, CMA, or MBA is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the utility industry, particularly with an electric distribution cooperative, is strongly preferred, along with knowledge of utility plant accounting, capital credits, budgeting, and financial forecasting.
  • Payroll administration and reporting knowledge is preferred.
