Lake Region Electric Cooperative (LREC), a member-owned electric utility serving more than 30,000 members across Otter Tail, Wilkin, Grant, Douglas, Clay, and Becker counties, is seeking a full-time Line Worker based in Ottertail, MN (211 Main St East). Candidates must live within a 20min commute of the facility.

Position Overview
This role is critical to the construction, operation, and maintenance of LREC’s electric distribution system to ensure safe, reliable service to our members. Advanced apprentices will actively progress toward Journeyman certification while contributing as productive crew members.
Core Responsibilities
Overhead Distribution
Construct 1-, 2-, and 3-phase lines
Frame and set poles; string wire to specification
Perform energized (hot line) work
Maintain overhead transformers and lighting systems
Underground Distribution
Install underground electrical systems according to standards
Operate cable plows, digger trucks, bucket trucks, and related equipment
System Reliability & Maintenance
Restore power safely and efficiently
Perform tree trimming and system inspections
Minimize service interruptions through preventative maintenance
Natural Gas System Support
Respond to gas-related service calls
Conduct leak investigations and repairs
Maintain required Operator Qualifications (OQs)
Safety
Maintain responsibility for personal safety, crew safety, and public safety at all times
Qualifications
- Graduate of a technical college line worker program and/or enrollment in a recognized apprenticeship program
- Journeyman Line worker certification preferred (for Journeyman applicants)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL to safely execute operation of all types of equipment including bucket & digger trucks, cable plow and backhoe.
- Working knowledge of electric terminology, specifications, and applicable codes
- Intermediate computer proficiency, with ability to use mobile devices and Microsoft Office products including Outlook
- Advanced apprentices must demonstrate successful progression in apprenticeship coursework and required hours
- Ability to pass pre-employment screening (physical, drug screen, background, references, and MVR)
Schedule & Work Environment
- Standard work hours Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with overtime as needed
- All employees are subject to call-out in the event of an emergency or other needed restoration of service.
- Position is required to be available to respond within 30min during a scheduled weekly on-call rotation, on average, every 6 weeks.

This is a union position with a starting wage of $32.18/hr for Apprentice up to $50.95/hr for Journeyman, based on experience, with a structured training progression and wage adjustments over 6 months - 4 years.
