RTO Analyst

Join our team at East River Electric Power Cooperative! Are you passionate about energy systems and transmission planning? We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) Analyst to join our transmission policy team. As an RTO Analyst, you'll play a vital role in keeping East River ahead in today's ever-changing energy landscape. You'll work closely with Southwest Power Pool (SPP) and Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) to monitor policies and requirements and the impacts on the cooperative. From analyzing data and preparing reports to contributing to long-term planning, you'll play a role in shaping East River's RTO strategies and contributing to impactful projects.

At East River Electric Power Cooperative we're dedicated to providing reliable and affordable wholesale power to our members across 40,000 square miles of service area. As a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative, we provide electricity to 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally owned electric system serving eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. Our members, in turn, power the lives of the member-owners in their service territories.

  • Act as a key liaison for RTO interactions and communications.
  • Collect and analyze data for annual updates to determine revenue requirements for SPP and MISO.
  • Participate in RTO meetings to stay in the loop with their initiatives.
  • Support long-term transmission planning and infrastructure evaluations.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, filings, and proposals to help drive East River's goals forward.
  • Communicate complex technical information in a way that's clear and easy to understand.

Showcase Your Knowledge, Abilities, and Expertise. Do you have?

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, business, or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in utility planning, engineering, operations, or RTO activities.
  • Strong understanding of RTO structures and market mechanisms.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills-you'll need to articulate ideas clearly!
  • Great organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Sharp analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others and develop positive working relationships.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products and computer technology.
