Lineworker Intern
Description
Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility that provides power to rural Wright County and western Hennepin County. The cooperative has been a corporate citizen to the area since 1937 and currently serves more than 59,000 electric accounts.
The Lineworker Intern is responsible for providing for specific operational duties and responsibilities to be delegated in a competent, well-trained person whose knowledge of and ability in this position will contribute to the attainment of the basic purpose of the Association.
Pay: $32.99-$43.07/hr. This is a union position and pay will follow the union pay scale. Pay is based on experience and education as per the union contract.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Loads, hauls, and delivers line poles and equipment to specified locations.
- Frames and sets line poles and structures utilizing staking sheets.
- Installs anchors, ground rods, ground wires and other line devices.
- Performs stringing, splicing, sagging and tying electric conductors and supporting overhead cables.
- Performs installation, splicing and termination of underground cable.
- Assists in the installation and replaces meters, transformers, cutouts, OCRs, sectionalizing, voltage regulators, capacitors, circuit breakers and others.
- Constructs special structures including substations, switching stations and power banks.
- Assists in retiring and/or recycling construction assembly units and other equipment and materials, as well as recharging of materials when appropriate.
- May be assigned to special crews or to work with qualified personnel on special jobs; (i.e. trouble calls, deep grounding, OCR overhaul, radio and television interference work, et al.)
- Prepares necessary paperwork including time sheet, trouble and voltage reports, material tickets, et al.
- Adheres to all safety regulations, ensuring a clean and non-hazardous work area and follows all safety protocols while performing normal duties and in the event of a hazardous situation.
- Performs or assists with pole-top rescue as needed.
- Participates as directed during emergency outages or severe weather conditions.
- Checks and tests rubber gloves and other protective equipment.
Requirements
Education and Experience
· High school education or equivalent
· Currently enrolled and/or graduated from Power Lineworker program (1-year or 2-year degree program)
Licenses/Certificates
· Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) and/or a valid health card
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Must be committed to safety, quality work, and customer service
· Able and willing to respond to after hours and weekend work
· Ability to work well with others and exhibit teamwork attitude
· Ability to work in confined spaces
· Must be able to complete the physical requirements of the position
· Knowledgeable on tools and equipment
· Must be willing and able to work in inclement weather at all hours and seasons
