Customer Service Specialist

With retirement comes an opportunity for a full-time Customer Service Specialist to join our team at Lake Region Electric Cooperative! The LREC customer service specialists are responsible for providing effective service to all new and existing customers. Gain and utilize in-depth knowledge of utility services and other energy services programs to answer questions, provide information, and drive customer satisfaction. 

Lake Region Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility serving more than 30,000 member-consumers in the counties of Otter Tail, Wilkin, Grant, Douglas, Clay and Becker (service territory). As a cooperative, our customers are members, and the ideal candidate will embody that mentality by providing a thorough response to all forms of inquiries. On-site in our Pelican Rapids, MN office, this specialist will be a member of our customer services team, responding to inquiries via phone, electronically, or in-person. Become proficient in responding to requests regarding electric energy usage, electric billing rates, energy conservation, and energy efficiency rebates. May also assist with communication related to account status and amounts due, autoPay, E-billing, budget billing, and confidently responding to past due issues and actions. Documentation of all consultations with members in contact tracking system, including preparing and delivering any written follow up correspondence.

  • Effectively manage and respond to incoming calls and electronic communications. Identify and assess customers’ needs to achieve satisfaction.
  • Provide accurate, valid and complete information by using the right methods/tools/software.
  • Respond to customers’ general inquiries regarding services and policies.
  • Keep electronic records of customer interactions, process account information and scan documents.
  • Develop proficiency in using utility related software systems.

Engage in sales information sharing for energy services related products and services.

  • Ensure knowledge of LREC products and services such as off-peak programs, stand-by generators, and solar panels to generate sales.
  • Assist with communication related to account status and billing inquiries. 
  • Share information and resources about autoPay, E-billing, and budget billing.
  • Confidently respond to past due issues and actions, documenting all conversations.

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to 2-3 years customer service experience. 
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, helpful, and courteous manner with customers and other visitors or callers.
  • Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the desire for continuous learning and development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with attention to detail.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, with ability to use Microsoft Office products including Outlook.
  • Capacity to work standard work hours, Monday – Friday 7:30AM – 4:00PM, and overtime as needed. Assistance will be expected during major outages.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment screening which may include a physical examination, drug screening, background check, reference check, and motor vehicle record check as applicable to the position.

LREC offers a generous compensation package including fully paid single coverage health insurance, company 401k match and substantial paid time off, including front loading accrual. The pay range for this position starts at $20.00 - $23.00 per hour. The total compensation package includes fully paid health insurance for single coverage and a 401K company match. Job offer rates are determined based on the candidate’s specific education, experience, knowledge, skills, and in alignment with market data.
