Location: Elk River, MN (Candidates may office out of any GRE service center in Minnesota and are eligible for a hybrid schedule)

Summary:

Responsible for construction safety management including constructability review and planning, adherence to safe working practices and safe operations of the facilities. Responsible for development of project-specific safety plans, safety orientation materials, internal project team safety training, self-performing field-based safety inspections and coordinating others in performing project safety inspections. Provides project management team with guidance on health and safety and confirms that project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations. Responsible for performing, analyzing and communicating field safety inspection results and trends, leading and participating in safety meetings, initiating safety standdowns, ensuring compliance standards and contractor adherence to project safety plans and specifications, and general oversight of contractor safety performance on high-voltage transmission line and substation projects. Collaborates with project managers in project development, crafting project execution plans, formulating construction contracting strategies, and assisting in contractor selection.

A typical starting range for this position is $139,000 - $191,000 + annually. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Manage construction project safety, ensuring optimal performance resulting in successful results.


· Develop project-specific safety and emergency response plans for contractors and subcontractors engaged in providing construction services.


· Oversee construction project safety, risk and compliance to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.


· Advise and make recommendations to project manager/project representative personnel and provide direction, as appropriate, to contractors regarding safety and emergency response matters.


· Work with the project manager to vet the safety performance and programs of construction contractors under consideration.


· Prepare requests for qualification and requests for proposals for contractors or assist in the preparation and gather requests for information and bids from contractors; prepare bid analyses; and make recommendations to the project manager with respect to the award or rejection of any bid.

Qualifications:  Knowledge typically acquired through a:


· Bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational safety and health, engineering or a related field


AND


· At least 6 years of experience in the high-voltage electrical utility industry


OR


· Two-year technical degree in occupational safety and health, engineering, civil technology, or related field


AND


· At least 10 years of experience in the high-voltage electrical utility industry.


· 5+ years of experience in a construction leadership position/s such as safety inspector, safety manager, construction manager, superintendent, foreperson, project representative or related required.


· Experience, application, and adherence of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, National Electric Safety Code requirements and regulations.


· Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) or equivalent highly preferred.


· Proven leadership skills and the ability to lead and influence personnel who do not report to the position.


· Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships, both internal and external, and establish credibility quickly.


· Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to successfully communicate with technical, non-technical, and leadership audiences.


· Ability to work both within a team environment and independently.


· Expanded breadth of knowledge in construction safety program management is required. Support to attend continuous training, education, and participate in seminars, conferences, meetings, etc. to be able to apply best practices is important.


· Working conditions will be indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions of extreme cold or heat.


· When high-risk activities are being performed, this employee will need to be in the field approximately 60-100% of the time.


· Ability to respond quickly for an emergency, even in inclement weather.
