Fleet Mechanic

A rare opportunity to live and work in lakes country as an automotive mechanic for large vehicles and equipment requiring DOT compliance. Lake Region Electric Cooperative, a member-owned electric utility, hase an amazing opportunity for a Mechanic to join our organization in our Operations Department.

On-site in our Pelican Rapids, MN office, this individual contributor role ensures the smooth operation of over 60 fleet vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks, SUVs, trailers, skid steer, mini excavator, backhoe, ditch witch, digger, bucket and dump trucks.

  • Schedule, perform and document regular inspections including Department of Transportation (DOT) required inspections.
  • Repair and overhaul vehicles including engines, transmissions, tire repair and rotation.
  • Perform maintenance on vehicles electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Responsible for purchasing, storing and maintaining parts, supplies and fluids for timely completion of services.

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle insurance, to use company equipment and vehicles. Requires maintaining a CDL license or ability to obtain with 6 months of employment.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, with ability to use Microsoft Office products including Outlook.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle inspection, repair and maintenance, including managing appropriate parts inventory.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with attention to detail.
  • Analytical and complex problem-solving skills, with the desire for continuous learning and development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Capacity to work standard work hours, Monday – Friday 7:30AM – 4:00PM, and overtime as needed. Assistance may be expected during major outages.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment screening which may include a physical examination, drug screening, background check, reference check, and motor vehicle record check as applicable to the position.

LREC offers a competitive wage, benefits package, and paid time off. This union position’s targeted pay rate for 2024 is $43.71, to be achieved upon completion of a training progression period with a starting wage based on previous experience.
