Overview
Advanced Work Order Topics
Advanced Work Order Topics is an interactive extension of the Work Order Procedures workshop. This one-day Advanced Work Order Topics workshop that should be attended after participation in Work Order Procedures. The objective of this workshop is to evaluate and elevate the baseline learning from the initial day and a half.

Learning objectives:

  • Understanding and fixing annoyances!
    • With any process there is the need for continual updates and adjustments. We will discuss common frustrations along with options to resolve them.
  • Advanced Assemblies! 
    • Learn how to analyze assemblies and what to be aware of when modifying or setting up assemblies. Discuss the importance of having a process to review and update assemblies, and how a review of assemblies’ cross references into your software setup.
  • Material makeover!
    • With the fundamental concepts of a successful materials management process in hand from the fundamentals workshop, we will review audit recommendations and work to establish a system that minimizes loss of inventory. Finally, we will discover best practices while being practical, no matter the size or degree of busyness of your organization. 
  • Standard Costs!
    • Discover the importance of maintaining current standard costs at the assembly unit level, what needs to be done to keep them up to date, and how to make time studies a practical process. Then, experience how standard costs can be utilized future planning, and how they can help analyze current year results.
  • Loan fund readiness!
    • Borrowing funds for capital intensive projects is a typical way utilities help spread the cost of projects over time. In this section we will consider loan preparedness, risk management, and planning measures.
  • Work Plan status analysis!
    • What should be reviewed? Several cost analysis options and considerations will be offered for you to match the needs of your utility.
  • Labor review!
    • How do we get time charged to where it really needs to go, when others may not see the importance of accurate coding? In this section we will explore best practices and discuss how many options are too many options, and how building a set of definitions that connects with those coding and approving time entry data can be beneficial.
  • Reporting the status of your plan! – The stakeholder list includes employees, managers and supervisors, leadership, the board, and member/consumers. What do they need to know, when, and how should the information be shared? This section will include annual status reporting, multiyear information, and how the back details of a 740C code analysis can be of help.
  • A deep dive into Special equipment! - Expanding upon the baseline knowledge of special equipment from the first workshop, we will dive deeper to explore the impacts of converting special equipment to using the inventory process.
  • Process Challenges! – Within the overall work order process, numerous components need to be completed in a specific order. While the order of some is important, others can be inserted into the flow a variety of areas. Through a practical exercise you will begin by seeing the path of your current process. Next we will discuss efficiencies, team building and improvements.
